Dog kibble can potentially provide a healthy option for your pet. It is an economical way to provide the proper nutrients and minerals for your furry pet. Furthermore, crushing dog kibble will make it easier for smaller dog breeds and young pups to consume.

How To Crush Dog Kibble

If you are a relatively new dog owner, you may be unfamiliar with dog kibble. But for dogs, kibbles are one of the best things a dog owner can ever give them. Due to its rugged exterior, kibbles usually are crushed. This also makes it easier for smaller dog breeds to digest the nutrients packed inside every kibble.

There are three kinds of dog food: fresh, raw, and kibble. Fresh dog food can be dry or mixed with water. They are made with natural and genuine ingredients typically cooked, such as beef, chicken, peas, carrots, blueberries, and liver. On the other hand, raw dog food doesn’t require any cooking and can be served immediately.

What is dog kibble?

Dry dog food, also known as dog kibble, is made with freeze-dried, dehydrated ingredients. They contain several components that are milled and transformed into pellet-shaped food or a shape of a loaf. Due to its larger size, dog kibble is crushed to make it easier for smaller dog breeds to consume.

Dog kibble contains ingredients that are not limited to:

  • beef, chicken, lamb, beef, turkey
  • grains, rice, oats, cereals
  • vitamins, minerals, antioxidants
  • fruits
  • vegetables
  • nuts
  • herbs and spices

Pros

Dog kibble is easier to prepare. A well-made dog kibble ensures that essential meat and plant-based ingredients are incorporated. This will drastically reduce costing of preparing fresh and raw products. Additionally, vitamins and minerals are pre-added to the solution—making it a lot healthier for your pet.

Cons

Due to manufactural error, some cases could be where the ingredients contain sensitives and tolerances bad for your dog. Some components such as rice husk, soy, and lactose can create issues in the GI tract. A potential overdose of vitamin D is possible, which can poison your pet.

How Do You Grind Dog Kibble?

When you are dealing with a younger canine, a small dog breed, or a canine senior citizen—you might need to grind your dog kibble. Grinding dog nibble will make it easier for your pet to consume since they don’t have the appropriate system to digest regular dog food fully.

Aside from grinding, you may also pulverize dog kibble, and the mix is with water to create a soft mash. This will make it easier for your pet to consume. Doing this procedure only requires a few materials, effort, and time from your side.

  • Prepare the materials needed to grind a dog kibble: clean bowl, dog food container, dog kibble, blender, and spoon.
  • Measure out your dog kibble that is good for a single serving. You can prepare every kibble in advance—make sure to measure the daily serving beforehand. This will prevent overfeeding your dog.
  • Make sure that the blender is dry and clean before you place your kibble. Then, place the dried kibble inside a blender. You may use a food processor just in case a blender is not available.
  • Pulse the appliance until you reach the right consistency. At that point, you may pulverize it until it turned into a fine powder. This is recommended for dogs with small or weary teeth.
  • To serve, measure the grind dog kibble until it reaches the right volume. You may include water to moisten the dog food. If your dog doesn’t like mushy food, you can dehydrate the dog food before grinding it again.

Can I Crush My Dogs Food?

Crushing your dog food will not only make it easier for your pet to eat and digest, but it can also give you an opening for producing homemade dog food. Homemade dog food is recommended for pet owners who want to make sure their pet’s nutrition. It also prevents excess nutrients and minerals from poisoning your pet.

Homemade dog food can be done with the use of a food processor or blender. Still, it is suggested to purchase an appliance to be used purposefully for your homemade dog food. This will prevent cross-contamination of dog food products with your meal.

  • If you are using a used appliance, make sure that it is free from food traces. Do not use a coffee grinder since there could be coffee bits from mixing to your dog’s meal. Caffeine-based products like coffee and tea are not recommended for dogs.
  • Attach the blade inside the machine. Make sure that it is completely dried and clean before using it completely.
  • Slowly, place the ingredients that you’ll be used for your dog food. Make sure that the ingredients used don’t impose an allergic reaction to your food. Next, pulse the appliance until it reached your desired consistency.
  • If using fresh ingredients, make sure to place it last if you are placing wet ingredients. This will prevent the dried products from not grinding completely. You may also include meat, broth, or other components to complete your dog food.

How Can I Make My Dogs Kibble Smaller?

If you own a small dog breed or are catering a puppy or a senior dog, making the dog kibble smaller is required. To do so, you may need kitchen appliances to complete the work easier.

  • Before crushing medication inside your dog’s kibble, make sure that proper veterinarian consultation is completed. This will prevent placing too many nutrients in your food.
  • Soak your dry dog food in water to make it easier for your dog to digest the food. Depending on the ingredient, it might take five to ten minutes before you can thoroughly soak your food.
  • If you don’t have a blender, food processor, or any electrical appliance—you may use knives to slice the food. This might be time-consuming, but it will do the job. Using the mortar and pestle will also work most especially if you are working with dried ingredients.
  • If it is too hard for you to make the dog kibble smaller, you may slowly place water until it softens a bit. This will also make it easier to form into a softer mush.
