For the most part, feeding fish once or twice a day is enough to keep them in good health. A few hobbyists even fast for a few days once or twice in a week to promote cleansing of the aquarium.

How much should I feed my fish each day?

As food consumption is excessive, a good rule of thumb is to use smaller quantities of food fish will finish completely in five to ten minutes. It is better to feed fish less than thought at first. Excess for fish can easily be discarded. If you overfeed, the uneaten food can provide health threats to fish.

 

Do fish need to be fed every day?

Tropical fish need to be fed every day and that one who feeds them must always avoid overfeeding. Prepared meals can always be saved from their instinctive hunger, buy small jars of such foods and supply.

 

How often should I feed my fish and how much?

You should feed your fish two to three times daily. It is good to dilute loose food into its own cube of attached ice and set them in your aquarium. Your fish should eat all the food in two minutes or less. Overfeeding can cloud your water and harm your fish.

 

How do I know if I’m feeding my fish enough?

The fish are going to eat food until they feel they’ve ingested as much as they want. If they like what you’re giving them, they’ll explode the feed and quit eating. If there’s still fish food at the bottom of the tank, you’re offering a meal too big.

Healthy adult fish can go for a week or so without food. With this interval they are not starving; however, young fish don’t have stores of fat reserves to last them without eating. Even over long weekends, you can safely allow adult fish to skip feedings.

 

Should I feed new fish right away?

There is no rule feeding newly-acclimated water plants, however if they do not accept food, it is best to wait overnight and see if they are ready to taste. If they are not hungry, wait 24 hours and do it once again.

 

Can I feed my fish once a week?

On a day when you do not feed your aquarium fish for one week, you might think that their populations would diminish or cease to exist. However, this is not true because they are kept well during the week in the absence of food.

There are many live animal foods and molds available for you to use in the aquarium. Fish and Crustaceans are not the only creatures that can benefit from life food. In addition, you can also grow food for wavy tail and goldfish by using herbs and greens in your setup. These can help supplement their protein source.

You will feed your pet fish depending on whether or not it’s been winter, and the intake of the pelleted fish food. In fact, warmer water will generally mean more fish food pellets. If the temperature is between 65-75F (18-24C), you can feed your fish once a day.

Performing fish water changes while the fish digest food is risky, as the fish could be caught without access to their normal food source. We actually recommend a minimum of two hours in between water changes and not having the fish fed for at least one hour after.

 

Is it better to feed fish in the morning or at night?

Although the standard advice is to feed nocturnal fish at night, you can offer fish feeding opportunities during natural feeding times. It’s still not too late to make your ‘day fish’ the best of their lives.
